The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown held a pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on October 17 in celebration of Jubilee Year 2025 in the Catholic Church. Hundreds of pilgrims from throughout the diocese traveled to this sacred site and spent the day exploring the shrines and beautiful architecture at the Basilica. Pilgrims also had the opportunity to enter the sacristy in the Basilica that houses a stained-glass window that depicts Servant of God Father Demetrius Gallitzin, the pioneer of the Catholic community now known as the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. To end the day, Bishop Mark and clergy from the diocese celebrated Mass in the Upper Church of the Basilica. Bishop Mark was also joined by Monsignor Walter Rossi, Rector of the Basilica, Monsignor Vito Buonanno, Director of Pilgrimages, and others from the Basilica. Directed by Patricia Jimenez, a diocesan choir composed of singers from parishes throughout the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown provided music for the liturgy.
