Proclaim!

Proclaim! Is the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown's comprehensive communications platform, designed to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and highlight the vibrant life of the Catholic Church across our eight-county region. Through Proclaim! TV, Proclaim! magazine, and Proclaim! E-News, the diocese offers engaging stories, spiritual reflections, and timely updates that connect parish communities and inspire deeper faith.

Proclaim! TV airs weekly on local stations, featuring interviews, event coverage, and segments that showcase the people and ministries making a difference in our diocesan family. Proclaim! magazine provides a quarterly print and digital publication filled with uplifting articles, photos and messages from diocesan leadership. Proclaim! E-News delivers regular email updates to keep the faithful informed and engaged with diocesan happenings.

Together, these platforms serve as a vital tool for evangelization, transparency, and connection - bringing the Church's mission to life in homes, parishes and beyond. Whether you're a lifelong Catholic or exploring your faith, Proclaim! invites you to witness how Christ is working in our midst and to become part of the story.

Campus Ministries

Campus Ministries provides Catholic direction and Mass services for five non-Catholic colleges in our area - Lock Haven University, Juniata College, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown (UPJ), Penn State Altoona and the Penn State University Catholic Faith Center/Newman Center at PSU. This service is meant to help provide students with the opportunity to celebrate mass and to strengthen their faith while at school. 

Youth Ministry

Youth ministry helps the younger generation engage with their Catholic faith through hands-on, fun-filled programs such as Camp Zacchaeus and the Senior High Youth Conference (SHYCON). 

Religious education is provided to continue and enhance the teachings of Jesus Christ to our youth that do not attend a Catholic school. Our classes teach youth the importance of helping others, how to follow Jesus, and how to spread His word in the world. We help our young people learn important morals and values that will impact their choices throughout their lifetime. This ministry helps to fund parishes with program materials, presentations, and teacher education to be able to provide our youth with a great experience when learning about their faith.

Parish and Family Life

The Family Life office exists to help families through the different stages and trials of life, to equip them to hand on the faith, and to support them when life becomes too difficult. The office oversees various programs throughout our diocese such as marriage preparation, marriage enrichment opportunities, resources for new parents, and pro-life causes (including Respect Life Sunday in October and the Walking With Moms in Need initiative). We also hold several events during the year such as our Anniversary Masses and the Mass for Widows and Widowers.

Sacramental Preparation provides help to children and adults that are to receive the Sacraments by providing education, retreats, and other learning opportunities. Receiving the Holy Sacraments is an important part of becoming one with the church. Each Sacrament helps change the lives of those participating, as they are building a stronger relationship with the Lord and are moving forward in their faith. Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation and Holy Matrimony provide a new hope for a new beginning with Jesus.

The Liturgy Office assists the Bishop, the Chief Liturgist of the Diocese, in overseeing prayerful and reverent liturgy throughout the Diocese. This office supports clergy and parishes with universal and Episcopal directives, helping to clarify and explain liturgical principles. And also providing guidelines to assist pastors with their Parish Liturgy Committees.

Direct Evangelization

The office of Evangelization assists parishes in forming evangelization teams, small prayer groups, and outreach ministries to inactive Catholics. They also provide resources to help faith communities infuse a sense of evangelization in all parish-sponsored ministries and programs. In 2025, we celebrated the Jubilee Year, the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord.

This ministry provided for celebration and recognition activities to occur throughout our Diocese during this very special year. This ministry is also helping us celebrate the Eucharistic Revival, which is a national movement focused on the joy of the Eucharist, offering an invitation to be united once again around the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist. Our Diocesan Conferences are a yearly invitation for the men and women of our diocese to fill their spiritual cup, take time for reflection and prayer, and enjoy Catholic fellowship.  Our diocese has recently added four priests from India to serve at our parishes and minister to local Catholics. These four priests have been a wonderful addition to our diocese, and share their joyful outlook on their faith with all whom are blessed to meet them.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities, Inc. of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has been serving neighbors in the Diocese’s 8 counties for 85 years. They are the human social service agency for the diocese and operate as a faith-based, non-profit ministry. They support individuals and families within the eight counties of our Diocese who are lacking access to basic needs or are in an unforeseen crisis, regardless of religious affiliation.

Catholic Charities' mission is to provide service to people in need, advocate for justice in social structures, and call the entire church and other people of good will to do the same. They live our their Catholic identity by providing support and social services so that people and families can build a better future story.

Seminarian Formation & the Vocations Office

The Vocations office helps people to discern God's call in their lives. The specific focus is to help men discern the possibility that God may be calling them to the priesthood in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. The Vocations office provides resources, invitations to special events and guidance to discerning men. It also provides oversight and guidance for men in seminary formation.

Formation of Permanent Deacons: Initial and Ongoing

Ordained Deacons are essential to the liturgical and social life of our Diocese. The Office of the Permanent Diaconate prepares candidates during their process toward ordination, and helps coordinate and facilitate ongoing formation after the ordination. This office also provides opportunities for Adult Enrichment programs and courses throughout the year. They also coordinate the Lay Ecclesial Ministry formation program that seeks to form laity to assist in roles in their parishes through a formal catechetical structure requiring a commitment of two years.

Clergy Support: Ongoing Pastoral Formation and Retired Priest Support

Ongoing pastoral formation is a lifelong, intentional process for our clergy to continuously deepen their spiritual life, enhance their pastoral skills, stay current with Church and societal changes, and grow in holiness to better serve their communities. In our Diocese, we facilitate this through retreats, mentorships and trainings.

St Leonards Home in Hollidaysburg has become a haven for our retired priests who choose to stay here in our Diocese. Here, they can enjoy retired life in a beautiful setting and enjoy fellowship with other retired priests.
